‘Wheeee,’ she shouted, as she raced down the hill on the way to market. Shooting past the others, Mother Christmas was going to be a clear winner this morning. Why, she was skiing so fast she almost flew!
Meanwhile, the note she left on her snowmobile seat was just flapping away in the slight breeze. Nobody even knew it was there yet. Then, the wind picked up the note and twirled it away. High into the trees. It landed straight in the side of Wise Owl’s head.
‘Oh, what’s that, what’s that?’ he cried.
‘Whatever is the matter?’ Sleepy Owl asked.
‘Look, look, a floppy note just landed on my head,’ he moaned.
‘Then you better read it, Wise Owl, it must be very important,’ Sleepy Owl yawned. She opened and closed her eyes a few times, blinking a lot in the morning sun. Wise Owl read the note.
‘I have gone to market on my skis because my snowmobile has broken. Please tell Father Christmas, lots of love, from Mother Christmas.’ Xx
‘Oh dear, Wise Owl, we better hurry,’ Sleepy gasped.
‘Ahem! Not so fast, not so fast, we need a meeting,’ exclaimed Wise Owl.
‘Well, yes, of course we do, how silly of me,’ Sleepy yawned.
‘Can you fetch: Albus, Bluenose, Cuthbert, Dubious, Ethel and Frederick,’ Wise Owl instructed.
‘Yes, I will. And will you summon: Giant, Horace, Inky, Jumble, Kidder and Ladle?’ Sleepy asked.
‘You can count on it. If you will call: Mildred, Nosey, Ostrich, Pickle, Quaver and Robin,’ Wise Owl replied.
‘Certainly. That just leaves: Terror, Uriah, Valda, X-Box, Yabba and Zebedee,’ Sleepy declared.
‘Yes, that’s it! Off we go now, no dithering.’ So, Sleepy flew one way and Wise flew the other. They were all going to have a meeting.
Meanwhile, Father Christmas was extremely busy this morning, polishing every pair of his black boots. He was rocking backwards and forwards, in his giant rocking chair. It helped him to make his boots very shiny. Backwards and forwards, backwards and forwards, he rocked.
The cuckoo clocks began striking 10 o’clock. There were lots of them! Cuckoo, cuckoo they all called, ten times each. Barney the dog put his paws over his ears. It was far too loud.
