Have you ever been to the Land of the Red Creatures? Do you even know where this secret place is? Aha! I thought not. Would you like me to tell you where, exactly, you might stumble upon this kingdom?
Well, come closer then, plump up your pillows and listen very carefully. No falling asleep, or you will miss the special instructions. That’s it, nice and close because, I will have to whisper it, shush, it is a secret … Oh, okay then, your toys can listen too, just so long as they promise not to tell.
Once upon a time, high on a hill, there was a castle. Not just any old castle, it belonged to Lord Boris the red hat Bridges. That’s right, that was his name. He lived in the Land of the Red Creatures. In fact, he owned all the creatures, or at least, he thought he did.
Lord Boris was very annoyed. He spent most of his days huffing and puffing, and do you know why? Because he was a very silly Lord. He wanted to be Father Christmas, which is impossible! There is only one Santa, and his name is not Boris, it is Santa.
Lord Boris, the red hat Bridges, had sacks and sacks of treasures and gold. He had so much money that he made his castle bigger and bigger and bigger.
When it got impossibly big, he made it higher and higher and higher. That is probably why not many people know all about the Land of the Red Creatures. It is hidden behind the huge castle. A castle bigger than any other in the entire world.
Of course, Santa knew all about Lord Boris. Every Christmas Eve, his sleigh almost bumped into the enormous castle on the hill. He never went down the chimney. No presents were ever left under the biggest Christmas tree in the world.
This was for two reasons. Lord Boris had never believed in Father Christmas, he just wanted to be Father Christmas. The Lord had more money than most people on all the Earth, but he was very greedy, he wanted everything.
Lord Boris, the red hat Bridges, wanted to be Father Christmas so that he could steal all the presents meant for the boys and girls. He could keep the mountain of gifts in his big castle. That was the second reason Father Christmas had never been to him. Not once, not ever. For even as a young child, Young Master Boris was very naughty, awfully selfish and just plain nasty.
And then, one snowy Christmas Eve, just as Santa was flying overhead, he saw something. Down in the Land of Red Creatures he spotted a message in the snow. S.O.S, it said.
Well, Father Christmas, as we all know, is the cleverest person there ever was. His memory is the biggest and the best. Rudolph and the reindeer flew lower in the magical Christmas sleigh to see what they could see.
‘Oh-oh-oh,’ cried Father Christmas, loudly. He didn’t usually say anything much, apart from ‘Ho-Ho-Ho.’ For there in the Land of Red Creatures, the reindeer and robins were huddled in a teeny-weeny space. The castle was now so big, there wasn’t much land left.
Santa and the sleigh flew as low as they could, but it was no good, they could not get close. For above the land was a net. Trapped in the small grounds were lots of reindeer’s and robin redbreasts. The small birds were very unusual indeed. Their tiny red chests were glowing brightly. As Santa got closer, he could see that all the reindeer had glowing red noses.
What daring plan will Santa think up? Can he outwit Lord Boris?
